Big Mama...the vessel

BIG MAMA was built at Wyalla Gardens, in the Bloomfield River catchment, over a six year period (1989-1995) by her owners, her skipper, the skipper's father (Olgert Upite) and numerous specialist tradesmen.

She was custom designed and purpose built to do what she does, where she does it, and she does it well.

An 18 metre (60 ft), steel hull, ketch rigged, Joe Adams design, BIG MAMA will accomodate 12 guests and 3 crew comfortably, with plenty of headroom fore and aft for 188cm (6'2") tall guests.

While the high ceiling and lack of many internal bulkheads provides a very well ventilated and spacious feeling, there is a lack of privacy, when compared to the same size yacht with only 2-3 large staterooms for 4-6 guests plus crew. Interested guests should look carefully at the floor plan and consider the number of guests planned and their requirements.

With two toilets and two hot fresh water showers, a large refrigeration system and desalinisation plant, BIG MAMA is well set up for long distance cruising in comfort and safety.
